Ryefield Primary School
Ryefield Primary School is a local education county school in the London Borough of
Hillingdon. The school is co-educational and has Nursery, Infant and
Junior sections. The school opened in 1960 with purpose built classroom
blocks, three playgrounds and is surrounded by thirteen acres of
picturesque grounds belonging to the school. The school has employed
the same house system – Nelson, Hillary, Scott and Drake – since it
first opened. The school is a vibrant, caring and happy place with
children from many cultures. There are approximately 500 children on
roll, including children in the Nursery. The school is always keen to
improve and has recently developed many aspects of its premises –
having recently developed a new Learning Resource Centre and
redecorated large areas of the premises. Ryefield is about to develop
large areas of the playground so that they will be more exciting and
purposeful for children. The school has its own ICT suite, which has
recently been upgraded and networked, and the school has electronic
whiteboards from Year 2 to Year 6. Ryefield also has its own
conservation area that has a pond, amphitheatre and plants – the
children use this for science and it has timetabled lunchtime use in
the summer. Ryefield has a strong sporting tradition and usually
performs well in LEA competitions. In 2005 Ryefield reached the
semi-final of two cup competitions in football, finished second in the
LEA netball championships, were runners up in Hillingdon’s netball
league and, throughout the season, managed many praiseworthy
performances in other sports. Ryefield often hosts sporting events for
the LEA, for instance, the borough’s cross-country event and the
Rounders Competition.
